Winter Babywearing

So how does one wear their baby in the cold? Firstly, being held close to your body is the most efficient way of keeping both you and your baby warm. A baby in a stroller will have to produce all their own heat, whereas a baby held in a sling or carrier will share your warmth.
My preference is to dress in layers and wear the baby carrier over a mid-layer like a sweater. Then I put the baby, who’s dressed appropriately for the weather, in a sling/ carrier on my front and throw a warm coat on. I leave my coat open but if you have a really roomy coat you could zip it up.
Keep baby extra warm with fleece carrier covers. We love Catbird Baby Covers as they’re made of the softest fleece, with a built in pouch for keeping baby legs warm as well.
We love Catbird Baby Microfiber/ Fleece Carrier Covers. They are a carrier cover made of fleece with a water-resistant microfiber shell that you wear as an outer layer over your baby carrier. They work perfectly with both Pikkolo and Beco Baby Carriers (& mei-tai’s etc). They’ll work with most two-shoulder baby carriers and can even be used as a stroller blanket. Since you may put it on prior to putting the carrier on, so you can even use it in a back carry with an older baby or toddler.
Another option is a babywearing coat such as the M coat. It’s a 3-in-1 coat with a removable panel so you may wear it as a maternity coat, while babywearing or remove the panel and it’s a great winter coat.
